First, you need to wash and condition your hair. Make sure your hair is clean and well moisturized. A curling iron can be very drying to your hair, so you need to make sure your hair is as moisturized as possible. If you can, use a deep conditioning treatment beforehand for soft hair and the best results. Also, use a moisturizing shampoo. If you have oily hair, concentrate the moisture away from the scalp. With oily hair, it's the top that gets greasy often leaving the rest look dry.

Spokane Steel Foundry Maintenance Operations

In March of 2008 when I took over the maintenance shop at Spokane Industries Steel Foundry Division, I knew it was going to be an experience that I couldn't begin to imagine. It was a blank slate. With support from a good core management group and great ownership we could do anything we set our mind to. This wasn't the first steel foundry that I have had an opportunity to help improve but I was hoping that we could be so effective that it might just be my last.

The Maintenance Department at Spokane Industries is somewhat immature from an organizational stand point, but we have the fortitude and the tools in place to get from good to great in an orderly manner and timely fashion.

Spokane Industries Maintenance Department personnel are in a time of transition and change. And we all know how difficult that can be, especially with maintenance guys. I know because I am one.

We are starting our passage from reactive to proactive maintenance with a good base. eMaint Enterprises LLC furnishes our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support and they do an outstanding job. We have utilized their system to relocate and catalog over 3800 part numbers, tracked all of our critical to success metrics, built a purchasing platform, and we are even starting to benefit from mean time between failure data and work order history.

The leadership of the department has begun to turn preventative maintenance over to autonomous exercises utilizing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), allowing specialized maintenance to perform detailed inspections to ward off catastrophic failure situations. We have been able to reduce inventory while still feeling comfortable we will have the part in hand for scheduled maintenance once the inspection process reveals the useful life of the component to be nearly expired.

Amoungst electricians and millwrights we have over two hundred years of maintenance experience and I feel extremely lucky to have inherited the talent we have in this shop. Our task is now to document that knowledge and make it available to the younger staff members and to get the veterans utilizing lean maintenance techniques to determine Root Cause (RCA) during the repair process of failed machinery. We have already implemented several action items that have eliminated root cause of failures and moved some dollars right to the bottom line. The largest hurdle here is that we have had virtually no early machine management, and some of the equipment has been around a while.

Although we have many challenges to face and an uncertain economic future we are dedicated and unwavering in our quest for excellence and continuous improvement. After all, the mother of invention is necessity, and our necessity is to do more with less through increased efficiencies.

How to play guitar really fast

Playing fast guitar became famous around the 1980s when most guitarists wanted to play fast like Steve Vai and others. The need for speed has never really gone away, and today guitarists like Satriani still give shredders the taste of what is possible. But its not as easy as it looks, how do you play guitar really fast, because a lot of teachers can't do it themselves.

It is easy to learn the steps that will increase speed over time, and being persistent with each one will pay-off as time goes by. Learning to play really fast doesn't happen over night, it takes great discipline. You will have to work on your left and right hand technique consistently, no slacking, because both hands have to be co-ordinated together to increase speed and dexterity. No co-ordination means no accuracy, which means it will sound awlful. You will also want to develop proper thumb and finger placement along the neck. The two basic thumb positions that are mostly used by professional players are putting the thumb over the top, and resting the thumb behind the neck. Behind the neck will give you bigger reach on the fretboard and will improve control and consistency. If you practice guitar scales and exercises slowly in these thumb positions, you will increase your accuracy and speed in time.

Having your fingers ready on the fretboard, in the right positions is a must if you want to play really fast. If your fingers are already resting above the first 4 frets until needed, your hand won't have to physically move as far, because it is already in position. You then can either press the fingers onto the strings, and leave it there until you needthem (finger anchoring), or raise each finger as the next one comes down (finger movement), for speed, finger movement is what you should use. Finger accuracy involves consistently fretting a note right behind the fret, this improves dexterity. Remember to use the flat part of the finger tips and not the side of the finger. The more discipline you have, the quicker you will become.

Right hand technique is just as important as left hand. Your picking style, how you hold the pick and your motion will all affect speed. Picking can be alternating, sweeping or circular picking, and should probably be learnt in that order as they increase in difficulty as well as speed. Alternate picking can still be very fast, and is used by Malmsteen so don't underestimate it!

If you want to play really fast, holding the pick lightly above the strings will do the trick, we have to reduce the drag factor as we sweep across the strings. Use the motion of the wrist, keeping it as loose as possible. Remember to not tense up your fingers and thumbs.

All of this will take discipline and practise. You will have to make time everyday to get better, a big splurge at the beginning of the week then nothing for the rest of the week is no good. Remember to practise with a drum machine, start at slow speeds and then increase tempo gradually.

Its just a matter of time with these simple techniques, with practise and discipline, you will be playing guitar really fast in no time. - 15338

There are few factors in deciding if you need to hire a sound guy or if you can set up the equipment yourself.

First, you should consider the size of the venue. If you are playing in a small 100 seat venue and the PA required is not very big, you can handle the sounds yourself. Its better to have the mixer on the right side of the stage.

If you are performing some large venue or outside, you should probably hire a professional who can supply the gear and operate the additional equipment you will need.

Another factor is the mixing ability of the band members. You should factor in knowledge associated with amplifier wattage, speaker impedance, graphic and parametric equalization, compression, effects, and locating troublesome frequencies that will create feedback (squeal or hum). Dont forget to consider basic knowledge of dynamic levels, microphone polar patterns, and overall mixing of the sound levels. If you cant do any of this or know any of this, consider hiring a pro.

Third, factor in the size of your band. If your band is bigger than five people all playing a variety of instruments then its better to hire a sound guy who knows what he is doing. Moreover, there is too much equipment required for one band to do it themselves.

I have been writing about Biker rights andunity for years. I have a few Biker book, Movie and even Biker Cartoon ideas. (Don't forget my Biker radio Show at BikerLowdown.com) Because I have to be careful about posting them on-line so they do not get stolen I haven't posted any. This is a very small part and just the beginning of a story I have been working on. It takes place in a world where the Government and the Police have become completely Corrupt. All the Motorcycle Clubs had been framed and blamed by the police for all the Crime and problems to cover and shift everyone's attention from what our Government had been up to. When everything had fallen apart and America had fallen into the hands of the corrupt and Criminals where now running everything, There was no one left to turn to. The Bikers the world had been told to fear, Who had been shown as the ones who where evil, Decided it was time to turn the tables, The became the Guardians of the innocent and started the Motorcycle Club GUARDIANS OF EVIL in order to start to bring Justice back to the world. The idea of the character of Kyle is something along the lines of a mix of Dartanian in the three Musketeers and a young Bruce Wayne from Batman . He will become one of them, But first he must learn, And the Adventure Begins!!!

GUARDIANS OF EVIL:Scene 1 The Sky was dark and cloudy and a slight mist of rain started to fall on Kyle Star Jr's face mixing with the tears that fell freely from his dark brown eyes, How appropriate though Kyle as he looked over the freshly dug hole that his fathers casket had been lowered into just hours before. With no raincoat or umbrella He was soon soaked and his shoulder length brown hair clung to his face. Everyone else had left long ago, his and his fathers, Friends Family and Fans had Hugged him and said things to Kyle to comfort him but they where like ghosts to him an he felt and heard nothing of what they said. Kyle looked around the cemetery and saw there where still 3 News vans there waiting. He knew they would want to talk to him, After all he was the son of the worlds greatest Motorcycle racer an at 6ft 160 lbs he was the spitting image of his late Father. He knew now that his Father was gone all everyone wanted to know was if He would be taking his Fathers place on the Race Track! Let them wait though Kyle, as he could not bear to leave his Fathers graveside yet. He knew that when he left the graveside the life he had once known would be gone forever. His father had been everything to him. His best Friend, his Mentor and his Hero. Kyle had never known his Mother an now at just 18 years old he found himself alone and on his own. The whole World had seen his Father die on the racetrack that day as he raced that one last time. He was far ahead in the lead and no others in the race where even close to him when He suddenly "lost control" of his motorcycle Crashing into the wall at close to 200 Miles an hour. Kyle had ran to help his Father but there was nothing he or anyone could do, A legend was gone Kyle Star Sr had died instantly!

Kyle Heard a voice whisper his name bringing him out of his dream like state. He looked up to see the Reporters face; he had seen her many times before on TV. She was not just any reporter but some well known big shot. She had interviewed Kyle's Father more then once over the many years of his racing career, but at this moment she was just another Ghost to Kyle. What do you want he asked her? Kyle I'm sorry to bother you at this very sad time She said. But the world wants to know what you are going to do next after your father's accident, Will you take his place? Will you race? Kyle's faced turned red his eyes grew wide, he looked different even his voice seemed to change as he looked at her and said. The crash was NO Accident My Father was Murdered and I Know who is responsible! As Kyle looked straight into the Camera he spoke words that he would live to regret, "I will be coming for you!" Turning and looking at the reporter Kyle shouted "How's that for an exclusive" Then he turned and walked away as the sky opened up and the rain started to come down hard!

Scene 2 The Taxi Pulled up in front of the bar and Kyle threw a handful of cash at the driver not even Bothering to count it. It had been six Months since his fathers Funeral and the man who stepped out of the Cab looked very little like the Man who had cried for hours by his Fathers graveside. Kyle now looked mean and rough a short beard on his face and his uncombed hair was covered by a Black dew-rag. The suit he had worn at his fathers funeral was now replaced with a t-shirt, leather vest, Blue jeans and work Boots. Kyle looked at the run down looking bar on the corner called "The Hoggs Penn" A clever play on The old Harley Nic Name, He though to himself. He saw about 20 Bikes parked out front, Most of them where Harley's But he could see a few other Brands mixed in with the pack. This is it he though my fathers Killer is inside and soon one of us will be dead. He could hear the song Welcome to the Jungle By Guns an Roses blasting from the Juke box inside as he walked up to the door, opened it an walked inside. There was a large dirty looking Biker working the door in a cut off T-shirt with some Bike shops name on it. The Guys arms where Huge and covered in Tattoos. You got some ID there boy? He asked Kyle. How's this? Kyle asked as he Placed a one Hundred dollar Bill on the table next to the Man. Looks good to me he said with a Smile as he put the cash in his pocket. Have fun JR he laughed as Kyle looked around the loud Smokey bar. The walls where covered in Biker posters and Hundreds of different stickers from Bike Shops, other Bars and Club Support stickers. The place was packed with many large Bikers; some had patches on their back showing they belonged to one club or another. There where five really great looking girls in very tight skimpy outfits Dancing on the Bar, on a different night in a different time I might have really enjoyed this place he though, as the first smile in a long time crossed his face. The smile only lasted a second as some drunk walked into him growling "watch where I'm walking boy" as he went past walking to the back of the bar heading towards the bathroom.

Kyle started thinking maybe I'm in over my head here as he saw most of these Bikers where much larger then him. One large Biker standing by the corner of the bar really stood out to Kyle, The guy had to be at least 6'ft 10in tall and over 300 lbs all of it muscle, he was wearing a long Black leather trench coat that went to about an inch from the floor, He had long golden blond hair that made him standout even more in the dark bar. Kyle felt as if this man was trying to warn him with his eyes. Kyle suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder and was spun around, he felt the wind get knocked out of him as he was punched in the gut harder then he had though possible. Four large Bikers grabbed him and pulled him towards two large doors in the back of the Bar. One of the Men kicked open the doors that lead to an alley out back. They dragged Kyle threw the doors and then tossed him to the ground. As he looked up he saw a large muscular Bald Black man about 6ft 2inches tall, wearing a black leather vest way to small for him. He had no shirt on underneath showing the world just how many muscles he had, lighting a cigar. He smiled at Kyle and then kicked him hard in his gut knocking the wind out of him once more. Boy you are about to learn a very valuable life lesson, unfortunately you isn't going to live long enough for it to do you no good! Boy you never tell your enemy you are coming for him! An you go an do it on National TV. What was you thinking? Yeah said Kyle while trying to catch his breath. I realized that was probably not a good idea about two seconds after I did it. Kyle got a very serious look on his face as he said; I'm here to kill you Bob! You know that Right? Kyle stood up and pulled out a gun with the speed of an old west gun fighter. Badass Bob huh? How bad you feel right now with a Gun pointed at your head? Actually Boy I feel just fine! A split second later before Kyle could pull the trigger he found himself back on the ground with a large throbbing bump on the back of his head, one of Bob's men had hit him hard with a crowbar. Kyle felt himself slowly passing out and the world going black around him, He could see Bob and his men standing over him smiling, they all had Guns in their hands. This is it Kyle though to himself now I die and my Fathers killer goes free! Just don't seem right, where is the Justice in this world? Just Before the world went completely black and Kyle passed out, He could have sworn he saw a streak of Gold pass overhead and heard the sounds of someone fighting!

Scene 3 As Kyle woke he could feel a throbbing in his head,He could feel a large bump with his hand on the back of his head where he had been hit. He was laying on a couch in a room that was very bright. As he rolled over to look around the room he spoke the words "Where am I". He was Surprised when he got the answer, Your still in the land of the living, So I would not worry about anything else right now! As Kyle looked to see who had spoken the words, he could see it was the large Golden haired man he had thought was warning him at the Bar. As Kyle looked around the room he could see there where other people in the room with them, They all looked like hardcore Bikers and on one of the walls he could see a banner hanging, on it where the words GUARDIANS OF EVIL MC .....

When I woke up Saturday morning and opened up the computer the first thing I saw was that Norman Mailer had died at 84. I closed the computer, and didn't open it again until the next day. Norman Mailer was a hero of mine, and a lot of my heroes are starting to leave.

Norman and I didn't agree on many issues, but I think that still doesn't matter. He was one of those rare people who aren't afraid to write on what they want to write. He was fearless.

I spent the rest of the day trying to remember what Norman had done. I couldn't help but recall the 1948 book entitled The Naked and the Dead, which I have read around the year 1969, when I was 16.

From then on, I read almost everything he wrote, and if he was going to be on TV, I always watched. He never failed to be interesting, and to have an idea, something most people who write and are ontelevision never have.

It was on Charlie Rose when I last saw him. There was also another show wherein he appeared, but then, I couldn't remember what was it called. As for Norman Mailer by that time, he had hard hearing, but was amazingly full of high spirits. It's rather disappointing that the shows didn't spare him too much time to appear on air.

I am one of the people who disapproved of his politics, but I learned to forgive him eventually. The liberals were just too different compared to Norman Mailer. He stood firm for his beliefs.

At times Mailer was savaged by the New York literary establishment and by critics. He didn't care two hoots in hell what they thought, and just kept writing and speaking.

I enjoyed his last book, The Castle In The Forest, and he had plans for a trilogy of the work on Hitler.

The moment I knew that Norman Mailer would appear in Charlie Rose, I became excited.

The very day he died it was when I felt a heavy disappointment. There would be no trilogy, another hero long gone.

I felt better by the next day. But still, I couldn't forget the fact that Norman was just one of the few who would stand for people's rights to defend themselves. I'm sure Norman knew about the weasels in his party. The vast shadow that hid them was not enough to keep Norman Mailer blind. He knew all along that they had no courage at all.

He knew about this because he could always place himself on the line all the time.

He was a real man and a brave man. He was Norman Mailer, one of the very few.

I think I could imagine how heaven is doing right now, with Norman Mailer around.

With new products coming out everyday it has never been harder to determine if a computer setup may work for you as a digital keyboard. We will look at how expensive a workstation setup compared to the software route will add up when trying to not break the bank account. Also, how portable is a computer setup and is it expandable? When you complete the reading of this article you should know exactly which way you want to invest your hard earned money.

Of all of the musical instruments to choose from, none have had the ability to be used in a digital format for longer than the keyboard. Since the 60s many major achievements have been made toward the advancement of synthesizers, none bigger than the Moog which used analog circuitry and set the standard for synths to come. Over the next two decades digital technology would eventually prevail over the much larger analog snyths becoming what is now the industry standard. Today the choice between digital versus analog is more of a preference than anything else. The purist will say a digital version of the analog sound is far superior and while its always better to have the exact source, with todays digital sound banks it is doubtful they could pick out which one is which on an actual recording.

So when you when you decide to make your purchase you have two main options to select from. Do you go the software route or stay with the more conventional all in one keyboard workstation. It is my hope that I will be able to guide you on your journey, helping you make the choice which is best for you. First, lets see what each setup is made of. The digital workstation is pretty much what you see is what you get. It's all built into the unit and unless you want to add some accessories then you need nothing else. Now the first drawback to some wanting to use software is that this is a bit more of a setup. The heart and soul is your computer and if you want to use this for gigging then you have to have a laptop.

After the computer, a sound card will be needed in order process the digital signal. You can try using what is already built in to your computer but the latency will probably to much to overcome. There are many way to go when purchasing a sound card but buying an external card will save in setup costs unless you are comfortable with installing it yourself. We will also need a midi keyboard controller and the software package that you prefer. Once you have that then you have a solid software setup ready for use.

Wow, it can be a bit overwhelming when considering a software setup. So why would anyone choose this route then? As far as Im concerned the sounds are far superior to anything you will find built into a workstation and the ability to expand your setup and add-on is limitless. Not only that, but you now have the capability to record your ideas or songs using a piece of recording software like (Pro-Tools, Nuendo, etc). As a matter of fact you kill two birds with one stone buy purchasing an M-box by Pro-Tools. Not only would that allow you to record onto your computer and come with the software to do that, you could use it for live performances as well.

In the end you have to decide whether or not ease of setup and portability is more important than quality of sounds and endless extensibility. Not to mention that going this route sets you up with a mini home recording studio as well. A lot of workstations may allow some basic recording functionality but this will allow for recording any instruments you want and make for a very conducive writing environment for band situations.

When looking for the right software I would look at Native Instruments as a great starting place. A personal favorite of mine is also the libraries created by East West. They use professional musicians to record each sound and create a sound bank of wav files of organic instruments. With a keyboard controller you can build an entire score that will sound just as real as an actual symphony.

Now to the main concern of most, what will each cost me? If portability is a must then a laptop is a must as well. If you do not have one then your overall price of a software setup will go way up. You will probably spend between 1 to 4 thousand dollars on a quality workstation so if a laptop is not needed then it is probably cheaper to go with a software setup.

When you add up your main components (controller, sound-card, and software) you should be able to stay under one thousand dollars. You do have to be aware that some software, including the above mentioned East West, can be just as pricey as a new laptop. In the end, the amount of software you decide to buy is what will really determine how much you spend on this setup. Hopefully I have been able to guide you through the mysterious world of software setups for the keyboard (or even other musical instruments) and you should now be able to make better choice as to which is right for you. - 15338

Ukulele Chords: Learn to Play an F Chord

For the first time ukulele player, it can be a little confusing where exactly to start. Many beginners find a chart with hundreds of chords and get intimidated.

Which chords should you learn to play first? Which chords are essential to learn? Which chords can be played easily by a beginner? Which chords go together? Which chords are most often used in songs?

To get the answers to these questions and many more, keep on reading this series starting with today's entry: how to play an F chord.

You might have slightly more difficulty with the F chord than you did with the C chord which we encountered in the last part. This is because it uses two fingers rather than one.

Step 1: Hold down the E string (which is one up from the bottom of the neck) at the first fret using your pointer/index finger. Step 2: hold down the G string with you middle finger at the second fret. Play these two notes by themselves to make sure you can hear them clearly.

Also make sure that the notes that you are not fretting (the C and A strings) are ringing clearly. This can be a little tricky at first. You may find that these strings are dampened and not ringing out as clearly as they should do. The simple reason for this is that one of your fretting fingers is resting against a string as you are fretting another string.

Are you fingers accidentally dampening one of the other strings? Look at how you are fretting to see if this is creating a problem for you.

To cure this, lift your hand up off the fret board so that, rather than laying flat against it, it is raised up from it and your fingers come away at a sharp angle.

It is very important to practice this aspect as it is essential to get a good sound when you're playing the ukulele. Getting into good habits now will make it easier when you encounter tougher chords later in your playing.

When you have got this technique down, it will provide a firm basis for all the chords you will learn in future.

Now you have learned two chords: C and F. There are many songs that include this chord change. In fact, it is one of the most common around.

And the third chord that will complete this natural progression is the G7 chord. This chord adds the final bit of tension to the progression. And that is the chord that we will be learning in the next article in this series. - 15338

Most people don't know that there are many big brand cosmetics that contain nasty or downright dangerous ingredients. There is now a study showing the effect of dangerous cosmetics on teenage girls, that might prompt you to look for safe cosmetics next time you shop.

And now there's a study by the Environmental Working Group which found suspect chemicals (phthalates, parabens, triclosan and musks) in the urine of young girls from 14 to 20 who took part in the study.

Some of these were found in the body of every single girls tested in the study.

Adolescence, of course, is a time when the maturing female body is growing fast and dealing with hormonal changes, and girls of this age do not want to be loading their bodies with potentially toxic chemicals.

Most of these chemicals are hormone altering and so our teenage girls are taking a big risk at a time when they shouldn't by using these toxic chemicals in their cosmetics.

No one knows what the implications are but it's an area of reproductive health that we shouldn't be playing with.

If there are risks to our kids using dangerous cosmetics or skin care products or others then they shouldn't be using them.

That may worry you, but there is a safe alternative. There are excellent companies making safe cosmetics that are very effective, and safe and effective skin care products as well, neither of which contain any dangerous chemicals.

But these aren't the big brand name companies, they're small niche companies that can't possibly compete with the big brands on marketing, and don't try, so you never see them advertising on TV. And you won't find any of their products on the shelf of your local store.

But you need to search to find them, if you do there are excellent companies making safe cosmetics and very effective natural skin care products.

The highlight of the Mwaka Kogwa festival is the traditional burning of a hut - said to signify the passing of the old year and the start of the new. This ritual is thought to ensure the safety of the village in case of fire during the year and to purge evil from the people and the land. After the fire and fighting there is song, dance, drumming and feasting. Hospitality is extended to all people as the locals believe that any villager without a guest will be the recipient of bad luck and the party goes on till dawn.

As a result of the mentioned cultural events, Zanzibar Island has gained international fame as a center for African culture. Visitors to Zanzibar can get there by sea and by air. Some of the international airlines that operate scheduled flights to Zanzibar include Ethiopian Airlines, KLM (in partnership with Kenya Airways), Gulf Air, and Air Mauritius.
